Tokyo - day 4 - Suga shrine

Day 4 was quite rainy and lazy. We did have the Suga shrine on our to do list - famous from the movie Your Name by Makoto Shinkai. As you can read on the information panel, this shrine is “general guardian” of a quite specifically defined set of neighborhoods in Tokyo. The atmosphere in and around the shrine is actually quite a bit more pleasant than at the giant Meiji Shrine we visited earlier.

Underway we passed a Buddhist cemetery and I photographed the interesting ski-like objects called Sotōba - these contain information about the deceased, in stylized Sanskrit strokes and Kanji. We also were surprised to discover a real pomegranate tree in the wild!

After Suga shrine, we headed to a nail salon in Shibuya where my daugher had her nails done while I tried to consume the giant ice cream vessel misleadingly called “fondant” in the menu.

We finished the day off with a Mac snack and headed back by metro and bus. Unfortunately we miscalculated and missed the last bus, so an Uber brought us the last segment of the trip. Incidentally, Ubers always come within 2-3 minutes and are reasonably priced in Tokyo (subject to the yen exchange rate).
